Garage Sale

Last week Doug said that he wanted to do a garage sale and along the week we selected what would be sold. He said he would give me 10% of the money he made and I said I wanted 15%, but we met halfway at 11%. So I did the posters yesterday and we got it all together for this morning. It`s JUST LIKE in the movies. You put the posters on the corner and the things on the driveway and people just start to arrive. It`s all very cheap (for example: tennis racket, $8 - at the store it is $75-, hard cover books, $1). The only bad thing was waking up early, but I think we did a good job.


Semana passada Doug Funny disse que queria fazer uma garage sale (promocao/venda de garagem) e ao longo da semana a gente foi escolhendo o que ia vender. Ele disse que me daria 10% do que fosse vendido..eu disse que queria 15% e ele disse "11%,", eu aceitei -dinheiro vendendo coisas que nem sao minhas?? LOGICO que eu aceitei! Ontem fiz os cartazes e ontem organizamos tudo. Gente gente! Eh igual de filme! Poe tudo na driveway (momento "como se fala...glass?") e os cartazes na esquina e vem gente a rodo. Eh tudo bem baratinho (exemplo: raquete de tenis, $8, livro, $1 - nao tinha livro bom, nao comprei nenhum) e rapidinho vai vendendo tudo. O que a gente nao conseguiu vendeu eu vou colocar no craigslist e cruzar os dedos pra vender, pq eu preciso de diiiiiiindo!

Lately

I haven`t posted anything new for quite some time. The latest happenings just made me feel like not writing stories down.
Doug hosted a dinner party. Seven people - including Trenton and I - were present. There was a lot of wine going on and then Doug brought this wine, which according to him costs 70 or 80 dollars (which for me is not much, since back home during the wine festival some bottles cost 500 dollars or 500 dollars a glass of wine, so these 50 or 80 dollar bottles do not impress me). I was drinking another wine when he brought that one but after I finished what I was having I asked to try the "80 dollar one" his friend (who is Mexican) said "dont serve that to Andre, he`s buzzed, he`s buzzed" and I joked back and said "Oh well...these Mexicans". OMG!! If I only knew I had hit a nerve. He wanted to know what I thought of Mexicans but he had lots to talk about Brazilians and everybody knows how upset I get when people talk bad things about Brazilians. He then said that I would not want to fight him. I was like "OMG!! Is this happening?". I said I was sorry, and that I was joking. I really felt like I hit a nerve, but..he joked (at least I think he did) and I joked back. But thinking about it now, if I meant that Mexicans have no class or that they are aggressive (I really didnt mean anything) he totally bought it and gave me a good example of that lack of class. Anyways... I`m safe, it just scared me.

Dei uma sumidinha daqui. Aconteceram uns bafons na ultima semana e eu nao quis escrever nada.
Doug fez um jantar pra uns amigos dele (soh a galera da equipe geriatrica. Eu e Trenton soh comemos e saimos quando tem esses eventos por aqui). Tava todo mundo bebendo vinho e Doug Funny traz um vinho e diz que a tal garrafa custa 70 ou 80 dolares (isso aqui eh carissimo. Sim, eh caro, mas na semana do vinho em Domingos Martins tem aqueles vinhos de 1000 reais ou 1000 reais uma taca de vinho, enfim....). Quando Doug trouxe a tal garrafa eu tava tomando um outro vinho, mas quando acabei o que tava tomando, pedi pra tomar o vinho que ele tinha aberto. Um amigo dele, que eh mexicano, comeca a falar "Nao serve esse pra ele nao que ele tah altinho... ele tah altinho" e eu brinquei de volta e falei "Ah... esses mexicanos". Veeeei!!! O cara quicou 3 metros de altura!!! Pediu pra eu falar o que eu achava dos mexicanos e eu falei que nao achava nada e ele disse que se ele falasse o que ele acha dos brasileiros eu ia ficar chateado. ELe entao me fala que eu nao gostaria de brigar com ele! JEOVA VEICULOS!! Quantos anos vc tem??? 10?? Falei com ele que soh estava brincando, e pedi desculpa e ele disse que nao era para eu falar dos mexicanos (preciso mesmo falar???).
Eu falo brincando sem nem pensar que mexicano nao tem classe e ele reage como?? Sem classe! A carapuca serviu neh?! Enfim... estou bem gente!! :D

Eu tenho comido tanta porcaria nessas ultimas semanas que eu acordo me sentindo cansado. O mal tempo sumiu, acordei e tava Sol - Sol frio (Sol frio eh quando tah Sol..mas nao tah quente, estranho neh?!) e resolvi dar uma corrida no quarteirao e fui comendo uma maca (odeio maca) - acabei correndo 15 minutos, pra comecar..amanha tem mais - e no fim dos 15 minutos eu tava morrendo, suando horrores.... meu suor tava cheirando a bacon!! :D
Hoje de noite comi pizza...depois tomei sorvete..Doug colocou um filme HORROROSO (ele eh igual meu pai..nao sabe alugar filme)... e comi pipoca com refri. Isso tudo em 40 minutos!! Toh me sentindo pessimo... 7 meses de academia.. pra nada... se bem que eu nao engordei um quilo!! Enfim.. vou parar de comer essas coisas. Cafe da manha no domingo eh coisa de doido: ovo com quezzzzzzo, bacon, pao com geleia - isso se nao tem gravy (que eu nao sei a traducao, mas eh esse creme branco na foto abaixo, muito gostoso). Batata roufles eh tao barato! Tem 3 pacotes na dispensa, e um de doritos. Segunda eh dia de Big Mac ($1,50), sexta eh dia de Mc Fish ($1,25. Como dois de bixo) ... Preciso comer salada! URGENTE!I`ve been eating so much junk food lately, I feel awful. I wake up and feel tired already. The bad weather is gone. I woke up today and it was sunny - the Sun was cold but that`s better than rain - so I decided to run around the block. Just 15 minutes for today to get myself started... grabbed an apple on the way out (I hate apple). By the end of the 15 minutes I was about to have a baby. All sweaty... I could feel the bacon coming out of my body! lol! :D
Tonight I had pizza, then ice cream, then Doug put a HORRENDOUS movie on (he`s just like my dad... he just cant rent movies) and I had popcorn and soda - that in 40 minutes. I feel bad... 7 months of heavy gym..for nothing. Not that I have gained weight..I didnt -I should be studied by scientists!! I look good and everything- but I feel tired. Sunday morning breakfast is the "worst": bacon, eggs and cheese, biscuits and gravy. Potato chips are so cheap (there are 3 of those in kitchen and 1 of doritos). Monday is Bic Mac day ($1,50), Friday is McFish day ($1,25, I have two of those) ....I love all that... but I`ll start having salad. I PROMISE!!

No mail for me please

I`ve always thought that once you start getting mail from banks and phone bills that is the line being drawn: you`re an adult. And I had never received letters from a bank...but.. I JUST DID! It`s nothing important. Just a paragraph saying that I should had received my debit card by now - which I did. And a statement of how much I have in my account - 36 dollars..thanks for reminding me of that!! I dont want to be an adult yet!! I`M NOT READY! :[

Eu sempre achei que quando vc comeca a receber carta de banco e de conta de telefone eh porque nao tem volta: vc virou adulto. E eu acabei de receber uma carta do banco. Nao eh nada demais..soh falando que eu deveria ter recebido meu cartao de debito e o meu saldo no cartao (36 doletas!! Nao queria ter lembrado desse pequeno-grande detalhe. Doug has this card that gives him a bunch of perks - for example: buy one entree, get the next one for free or half off - so we`ve been using that card often lately.
Yesterday we had dinner and then we to the movies to watch Nine. OMG! It was so entertaining. The cast is amazing and my girl Fergie did a good job. She didnt have one single line (loser) but she did a good job. But the best was Kate Hudson. Ontem a gente saiu pra jantar e depois fomos no cinema pra ver Nine. Jeova veiculos!! Muito bom gente!!! Minha amiga Fergie tava riquissima!!! Lately

Tonight I went to dinner with my friend Robert. He took me out to a quite fancy place in town. OH LORD!! I could never pay for that meal I had - and I didnt!! lol!!!! The menu is kinda crazy. It has a mix of raw fish with salads, but all in small portions - and it is expensive. WHY?. But in the last option of the menu there is the best burger in town. Between raw fish with salad and a the best burger in town. I`ll go with the burger (20 dollars for a burger. It better be the best one in town). So, as we are having dinner, Christopher Lloyd walks in and sits beside us. He`s not a big deal but I saw Back to the Future so many times when I was in 4th grade!! It was so nice to see him. I asked Rob if it was ok to ask for a picture..he said no. BUZZ KILLER!!!
Hoje eu fui jantar com meu amigo Robert. Ele me levou num lugar chiquinho. GENTE GENTE!!! Mto caro!!! Nunca que eu ia conseguir pagar pelo meu jantar - e no fim das contas, eu nao paguei mesmo!!! (lembrei de Milena agora quando ela falou "Deh, vc nao paga nada nunca!! Voce tah certo meu amigo"). O cardapio era muito louco. Umas coisas estranhas.. peixe cu...digo, cru com salada mas tudo bem poquinho - e super caro! COMOFAZ? Mas bem no finzinho do cardapio tinha um hamburguer que eh o melhor da cidade. 20 doletas um hamburger - tiro de bazuca no cu. Entre peixe cu...digo..cru com salada e o melhor hamburger da cidade, eh logico que eu quero o melhor hamburger da cidade. Dai, enquanto a gente estava jantando, Christopher Lloyd entra no restaurante e senta do nosso lado. NHOIN BEE!!! Tah certo que ele eh mais velho q minha voh, mas eu vi De Volta Para o Futuro 30 vezes quando tava na quarta serie!!! Foi legal ver ele e eu queria tirar uma foto, mas Rob disse era melhor nao. Ele eh super serio, eh velho, e curvado. Estranho... mas foi legal ver ele de perto!

Saving it for a rainy day

Americano parece acha que a parte mais importante do jornal eh quando mostra como serah o tempo no dia seguinte. Se no proximo dia vai fazer muito vendo, Doug grita da sala "Andreeeeeeeiii, amanha vai fazer muito vento, vou tomar meu remedio de alergia", se eh sol "Andreeeeeeeeeeiii... amanha vai fazer sol heeeeeeeein" - isso eh TODO DIA gente!!!! Se vai chover, todo mundo jah sabe uma semana antes e foi assim que aconteceu. Tava falando na tv que ia vir uma tempestade, os clients no Blenders falando que ia vir uma tempestade....veio a tal tempestade. Comecou domingo e parece q vai ateh sabado - o que nao eh nada normal na California. Em San Diego nao choveu por 7 meses!!!
Ontem vi no jornal que sao 4 tempestades uma atras da outra e duas correntes frias se encontrando e o que era frio, tah mais frio. :[ Ontem fui pro trabalho a peh e fui de sombrinha (odeio sombrinha). Fiquei seco na parte de cima, mas minha calca jeans ficou toda cagada e meu tenis... todo perdido no baile!!! Cheguei no Blenders, tirei a meia e intuxei papel higienico. Todo cagado!!!!!


Every American seems to think that the forecast, on the news, is the most important part. They just can`t wait to see what the next day is going to be like. If they say it`s going to be windy, Doug yells from the living room "Andreeeeeeee, it`s going to be windy tomorrow. My allergies will kick in", if it`s sunny "Andreeeeeeee, tomorrow will be sunny". That religiously happens everyday. The thing is...if it`s going to rain...EVERYBODY talks about it in advance. It`s raining since Sunday but people have been talking about this rain for the past 7 days. Costumers at Blenders have been talking about this rain forever. So the rain started on Sunday and it will go on until Saturday. I finally watched the news yesterday and they said it is four storms one after the other and two cold waves meeting. What was cold ...is now colder.
Yesterday I walked to work and I had an umbrella with me (I HATE umbrellas). My torso was dry my jeans got super wet and my shoes were soaked in the inside. I got at work, took my socks off and tucked toilet paper in my shoes. SO NOT GOOD!!!

The Grove

Terminando essa saga, depois do museu a gente tentou ir na Rodeo Drive, mas estacionar lah eh quase um milagre, entao a gente soh passou pela Rodeo rapidinho. Nao tem muito o que fazer na Rodeo Drive, a nao ser que voce tenha um rio de dinheiro pra fazer compras lah!
Depois a gente foi no Grove, que eh um shopping ao ceu aberto e no finzinho tem uma feira!! E do lado do Grove fica os estudios da CBS, onde eh gravado American Idol. Achei estranho uma feira no fim do shopping. Mas bem que nao tinha uma feira acontecendo quando eu fui... tinha soh umas barracas de comida, tipo na pracinha dos namorados. Depois a gente foi na calcada da fama: entramos no Kodak Theater (onde acontece o Oscar) e no Chinese Theater ( onde as premieres dos filmes acontecem e onde os artistas colocam os pes e as maos no cimento), e logico... na calcada da fama! :]

Finishing this saga, after the museum we tried to go to Rodeo Drive, but parking there is a real miracle so we just drove by it. There isn`t much to do at Rodeo Drive unless you got a lot of money!!! But just taking a glance at the stores is nice.
After that we went to the Grove, which is an outdoor mall with a farmer`s market in the end (kinda strange to have a farmer`s market right beside a mall) and on the next block it is the CBS studios, where American Idol is recorded. Since it was the end of the afternoon there was no farmer`s market going on, just some food stands with Greek food. Afterwards we went to the walk of fame in Hollywood. We went to the Kodak Theater (where the Oscars take place), Chinese theater (where the movie premieres happen and artists print their hands and feet) and well.. the walk of fame itself.Kodak Theater

Depois do Grove a gente foi pra West Hollywood (passei na rua onde a Christina mora!! :D) e fomos no restaurante brasileiro, Bossa Nova - eh comida brasileira de verdade e os garcos sao brasileiros tambem. Jeova veiiiiiiiiiicculos!!! Comi com forca gente!!! De entrada a gente pediu franguinho frito com bacon, farofa de mandioca e mandioquinha frita (eu nao sabia que gostava tanto de mandioquinha frita) e bebi guarana!!!! Michael pediu galeto com arroz e batata frita e eu comi arroz, strogonoff de frango e batata frita (Carol small meu bem...nao esqueci do jantar na sua casa quando eu chegar nah!! Promessa eh divida!)!! MORRI! E depois a gente foi no The Abby - que fica em frente ao Bossa Nova. Foi divertidinho...mas ninguem danca, ninguem faz nada.... todo mundo arrumado e fazendo tendemmmmcia. Ngm merece!!! Mas eh legal ir num lugar que voce veh na televisao! (isso soou futil!!! uhauhaauha..guess what?)
Deu pra ver todos os bares/restaurantes/etc que as celebs vao e que passam na tv: Whisky a Go Go, the Laugh Factory, Chateu Marmont, Boa. :D

Then we went to the place that made us go to LA. A Brazilian restaurant called Bossa Nova in West Hollywood (WeHo is pretty much a gay city!!! Everything from bars, restaurants, hotels, boutiques is made to please the gay community). It is real Brazilian food and the waiters are Brazilians as well. OMG! I ate so much! I drank Guarana and we had fried chicken selects wrapped in bacon and fried yucca root (my mom cooks fried yucca root but I never really eat much of it..OMG I was hooked up on that yucca root on saturday) and we also had yucca root flour ( I said I was hooked up on the yucca root thing). Michael had galeto, rice and french fries and I had rice, chicken strogonoff and french fries. It was so delicious!!
After dinner we went to the Abby (the most famous gay bar and restaurant in WeHo) - which is across the street from Bossa Nova. It was ok... the music was ok, guys there dress up like real queens, nobody gets to know each other, since everybody has to keep their poise...so lame!! But it was nice to be there.
It was nice to drive by Sunset Boulevard and see all the famous places I hear on TV that all the celebrities go, such as Whiski a Go Go, the Laugh Factory, Boa, Chateau Marmont etc.


Como eu disse, eu iria pra LA todo fim de semana, mas nunca moraria lah!! O que a gente veh na televisao nao eh verdade gente!! O transito eh pessimo, paparazzi dirige feito doido e eh uma cidade poluida. Michael disse que vai me levar no Magic Mountain (um parque de diversoes que tem mais 10 montanhas russas e fica aqui pertinho) e quem trabalha no Blenders tem desconto!!

As I said, I`d go to LA every weekend, but I`d never live there. It`s just so caotic. Paparazzi driving crazily, traffic, pollution...plus..it`s super expensive. Any hoooo... Michael said that the next place we`ll go is Magic Mountain (an amusement park with over 10 roller coasters and it is close to Santa Barbara) and Blenders employees have a discount! :D

Los Angeles: The Getty

Ontem fui pra LA com Michael. Por mim eu vou pra LA todo fim de semana, mas o Michael me convidou pra ir com ele porque eu disse que tinha um restaurante brasileiro em West Hollywood e que era comida brasileira de verdade.
Tem duas freeways pra ir pra LA e eh claro que a gente decidiu ir por Malibu, porque...oras.. eh Malibu. A gente parou num shopping pra almocar e eu jah fiquei muito mexido - eu nao sei o que acontece que eu fico muito ancioso. Eu sei que vai aparecer alguma celebridade a qualquer momento e eu vou dar um chilique - porque jah tinha visto uns paparazzis. Daih jah vi Jenna Elfman - que nao eh uma mega celebridade, mas eh alguem.

Yesterday I went to LA with Michael. If I could I`d go to LA every weekend, but the invite came up when I told Michael about this Brazilian restaurante in West Hollywood that served real Brazilian food. Since he loves food, we went to LA.
There are freeways that take SB to LA and we chose the Malibu one, cuz it`s just so pretty and it goes by the beach and well...Malibu. We stopped at this little mall to have lunch and maybe spot some celebrities and as soon as I step out of the car I start to feel funny - I always think I`m going to bump into someone like Angelina and Brad and have a heart attack. I saw some paparazzi and instantly spotted Jenna Elfman - who isnt a real celebrity but she did Darma in Darma and Greg, so, she used to be quite a big celeb.Ela fazia Darma and Greg e agora nao tah fazendo nada - com o marido e o filho. Malibu eh totalmente diferente de Beverly Hills, mas a quantade de bolsa Louis Vuitton que eu vi ontem.... parece que as pessoas saem de casa e pegam uma bolsa qualquer... (um dia eu chego lah). A gente passou pela casa da Cher - que esta a venda por U$42millhoes- e pelo Getty Villa - que parece um castelo.
Pra chegar em LA tem que pegar a Sunset Boulevard que passa por Brentwood e uma outra cidade que a gente nunca ouve falar -passa pela entrada de UCLA-, depois corta Beverly Hills, West Hollywood, Hollywood e LA (lembrando que o condado de Los Angeles eh gigantesco. Nao tem nada pra fazer na cidade de Los Angeles, tudo acontece nas cidades ao redor).

Malibu is very different from Beverly Hills. It`s so laid back (maybe because it`s on the beach) and everybody is wearing Louis Vuitton bags as if it were the most normal thing on Earth. So we go back to road and passed by Cher`s mansion, which is for sale for U$42 million.
We got in the Sunset Boulevard, which goes from Brentwood to another lil city, passes by UCLA, goes through Beverly Hills, West Hollywood, Hollywood and LA itself. LA county is huge. There`s nothing to do in LA itself, but the surrounding cities are fun.Inicio da Sunset Boulevard.
A gente tinha planejado ir no museu Getty, jah que tem bastante coisa pra ver por lah. Eh de "graca", nao paga pra entrar, mas paga 15doletas de estacionamento. O que tinha de gente nakele lugar nao estah no gibi! Tem um metrozinho que leva os visitantes da entrada ate o museu - eu nao ia andar 15 minutos por nada.

We had planned to go to the J. Paul Getty museum since there`s a lot to see there. It`s for "free", you dont pay to see anything, but you pay 15dollars to park your car. It was PACKED!!! There`s this lil subway that took us from the entrance to the galleries - or we could take a 15min walk that I would never take.

Museu eh museu. Nao tem muito o que fazer se vc nao gosta de arte. Eles estavam com uma exposivao de Rembrandt que estava uoooooooh!!! O cara desenhou com carvao uns quadrinhos minusculos, tinha ateh uma lupa pra ver os quadrinhos. Mas as outras galerias foram bem divertidas. Tinham outras exposicoes de outros artistas - Van Gogh, Degas, Monet, mimi mimi... - que estavam muito mais interessantes. Eh meio estranho ver as pinturas que voce soh veh pela televisao ou pelo computador. E elas custam milhooooooooes de reais!! Tirando as coisas do Rembrandt, as outras pecas sao todas da familia Getty... imagina um dinheeeeiro!
O museu Getty tem dois jardins imensos - um jardim de cacto (que eu nao tirei foto nao sei pq) e um outro que parece um labirinto. Jardim eh jardim...dahumtirodebazucanomeucu.

A museum is a museum. There isnt much to do if you dont like art. They were holding an exhibition about Rembrandt, which was SOOO boring. He drew these TINY stuff, there was even a magnifying glass to see things better. But the other galeries were a lot of fun. There was a bunch of Van Gogh, Monet, Degas bla bla bla... that were a lot more interesting. It`s kinda funny to see these very famous paintings that you can only see on tv or on the web amd they cost a fortune!!! With the exception of the Rembrandt stuff, all the other paintings belong to the Getty family - can you imagine how much money they must have?
There are two huge gardens - one of cactus and the other that looks like a maze. Gardens are gardens so... no much to talk about them.

O museu Getty - em LA- eh mto grande! Tem uma escola de arte, umas 10 galerias e dois jardins muito grandes. Pra ir da entrada ate as galerias, tem um trenzinho., que passa de 10 em 10 minutos.
The Getty Museum in LA is huge. It has an art school, around 10 galeris and two huge gardens. To go from the entrance to the galeries, there`s this little subway.
